Book My AppointmentGet DMV Appointments is an independent service and is not affiliated with the Texas Department of Public Safety. Booking a DPS appointment is free on the official scheduler, and you're welcome to do it yourself. Our $29.99 is an optional fee for the time and effort of finding and booking your appointment for you — it is not a government fee, and any DPS fees for your visit are paid separately, directly to DPS.
The North Garland Mega Center is the busiest driver license office in Texas, and one of three Mega Centers on the Dallas side of the metro. In late 2025 it moved out of its old Saturn Road location, now closed, into a newer, larger building at 5250 N. President George Bush Hwy. If your map still points to Saturn Road, it's out of date. The office sits on the President George Bush Turnpike near Firewheel Town Center; the turnpike is all-electronic, so bring a TollTag or you'll get a ZipCash bill by mail. There's no transit stop at the door, so plan to drive.
Here's what's worth knowing before you book: getting an appointment takes patience. As the highest-demand office in the state, North Garland's open dates fill fast — the availability panel on this page shows how far out they're running today, service by service. But the wait people actually dread, standing in line inside, is short. NBC 5 clocked the average in-office wait here at about 17 minutes, versus half an hour to two hours at older offices. A longer wait for the appointment; a much shorter one once you arrive.
The thing that makes or breaks your visit is check-in. Check in online the morning of your appointment, at the kiosk or on your phone, usually within 30 minutes of your slot, and most people are done in under an hour. The office number listed with Texas DPS is (214) 861-3700; appointments are booked online, not by phone, and for questions DPS Customer Service is 512-424-2600, Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. This is a driver license office: new licenses and IDs, renewals, REAL ID, CDL, motorcycle, and road tests, all by appointment. It does not handle vehicle registration or titles, which go through your county tax office. And if the next date here is further out than you'd like, Carrollton Mega Center, a short drive west, often shows earlier openings — its page carries the same availability panel.
What's good about this office
Texas DPS requires documents from a few categories. Bring originals or certified copies — photocopies and laminated copies aren't accepted.
Exact requirements depend on the service. See our Texas DPS service guides for the document list and fees for your visit.
You book through the official Texas DPS scheduler at txdpsscheduler.com. There's no fee to book, and you can schedule up to 180 days ahead. Convenient dates at North Garland Mega Center can be limited. If you'd rather not keep checking for an opening, Get DMV Appointments watches the official scheduler for you: most customers across Texas are booked within days (times vary by office and demand), with a full refund if we don't book your appointment within 7 days.
Maybe not. Many Texans can renew or replace a license or ID, or change their address, online, up to two years before or after expiration, without visiting an office. You generally must come in for a first-time Texas license, a REAL ID upgrade, or when your identity documents need to be verified in person. In fiscal year 2025, more than 14% of people who booked a Texas DPS appointment did not need to come in.

What to plan around
Texas DPS offers in-office services by appointment only. Some offices have a few same-day appointments through the official scheduler or a self-service kiosk at the office, while others — including some Mega Centers — are advance-booking only, so same-day spots aren't guaranteed. Booking ahead is the reliable way to be seen.
You can book up to 180 days in advance, and at North Garland Mega Center it pays to book as early as you can, because convenient dates fill first. In the state's recent daily reports, the wait for an appointment at North Garland Mega Center has run about 21 to 55 days depending on the service — see the “Average wait for an appointment” panel on this page for the per-service breakdown (as of the Jul 27, 2026 report). If the dates here are further out than you'd like, we can help you find an earlier one.
Get help finding an earlier dateTexas lets you use any driver license office in the state; you're not limited to your home county. If North Garland Mega Center is booked further out than you'd like, a nearby office (see the list on this page) may have an earlier opening.
See nearby officesArrive no more than 30 minutes before your appointment; DPS asks customers not to come earlier, and appointments are cancelled after a 30-minute no-show.
