A Houston Southeast Mega Center appointment books out well ahead: this Galveston Road office is the consolidated southeast-Houston center that absorbed the old Winkler, Pasadena, and Webster-Clearlake offices, so demand from across that side of town funnels here. The availability panel on this page shows today's numbers — book as early as you can.

Book My AppointmentGet DMV Appointments is an independent service and is not affiliated with the Texas Department of Public Safety. Booking a DPS appointment is free on the official scheduler, and you're welcome to do it yourself. Our $29.99 is an optional fee for the time and effort of finding and booking your appointment for you — it is not a government fee, and any DPS fees for your visit are paid separately, directly to DPS.
The Houston Southeast Mega Center sits at 10810 Galveston Rd in far-southeast Houston, the road also signed as State Highway 3, out in the Southbelt-Ellington area beside Ellington Airport. People sometimes expect it near Hobby; Hobby is actually about nine miles north up Galveston Rd, so set your map to the 10810 Galveston Rd address, not the airport. This is the consolidated office for this side of town. When DPS opened it in 2018 it replaced the old Winkler, Pasadena, and Webster-Clearlake driver license offices, all within about eight miles, so if your map still points to one of those, they moved here. There's no transit stop at the door; plan to drive, and there's parking onsite.
Here's the honest part about the wait, because it comes in two pieces. Getting an appointment is the slow one: open dates across the Houston Mega Centers book out well ahead — the availability panel on this page shows this office's current days to the next opening, straight from the state's daily report. The wait people actually dread, standing in line inside, is the short one for anyone with a booked slot. Visitors often report being in and out fast once they're seen; one person with an 8:00 a.m. appointment was finished by 8:10. A longer wait for the date, a short one once you're there.
The thing that makes your visit go smoothly is having an appointment, because that's what skips the line. Walk-in and same-day standby slots are limited and go quickly, and visitors often mention a line forming before the doors open, so don't count on strolling in. The office number listed with Texas DPS is (281) 929-5300; appointments are booked online, not by phone, and for questions DPS Customer Service is 512-424-2600, Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. This is a driver license office, so it handles new licenses and IDs, renewals, replacements, REAL ID, learner permits, road tests, and it's one of the offices with on-site CDL drive-test lanes. It does not do vehicle registration, plates, or titles; that's the Harris County Tax Office. If the next southeast-Houston date is further out than you'd like, the Spring, Rosenberg, and Houston North Mega Centers are the nearest alternatives, each a real drive away.
What's good about this office
Texas DPS requires documents from a few categories. Bring originals or certified copies — photocopies and laminated copies aren't accepted.
Exact requirements depend on the service. See our Texas DPS service guides for the document list and fees for your visit.
You book through the official Texas DPS scheduler at txdpsscheduler.com. There's no fee to book, and you can schedule up to 180 days ahead. Convenient dates at Houston Southeast Mega Center can be limited. If you'd rather not keep checking for an opening, Get DMV Appointments watches the official scheduler for you: most customers across Texas are booked within days (times vary by office and demand), with a full refund if we don't book your appointment within 7 days.
Maybe not. Many Texans can renew or replace a license or ID, or change their address, online, up to two years before or after expiration, without visiting an office. You generally must come in for a first-time Texas license, a REAL ID upgrade, or when your identity documents need to be verified in person. In fiscal year 2025, more than 14% of people who booked a Texas DPS appointment did not need to come in.

What to plan around
Texas DPS offers in-office services by appointment only. Some offices have a few same-day appointments through the official scheduler or a self-service kiosk at the office, while others — including some Mega Centers — are advance-booking only, so same-day spots aren't guaranteed. Booking ahead is the reliable way to be seen.
You can book up to 180 days in advance, and at Houston Southeast Mega Center it pays to book as early as you can, because convenient dates fill first. In the state's recent daily reports, the wait for an appointment at Houston Southeast Mega Center has run about 3 to 12 days depending on the service — see the “Average wait for an appointment” panel on this page for the per-service breakdown (as of the Jul 27, 2026 report). If the dates here are further out than you'd like, we can help you find an earlier one.
Get help finding an earlier dateTexas lets you use any driver license office in the state; you're not limited to your home county. If Houston Southeast Mega Center is booked further out than you'd like, a nearby office (see the list on this page) may have an earlier opening.
See nearby officesArrive no more than 30 minutes before your appointment; DPS asks customers not to come earlier, and appointments are cancelled after a 30-minute no-show. Bring an accepted payment method (credit card is preferred; money orders, cashier's checks, and personal checks are also accepted). After your visit, your card typically arrives by mail in about 2 to 3 weeks.
Texas DPS driver license offices handle driver licenses, ID cards, REAL ID upgrades, renewals and replacements, learner permits, and commercial driver licenses (CDL), and most locations offer driving skills tests. It's appointment-driven. A limited number of same-day standby slots exist, but they fill quickly, and visitors often report a line forming before the doors open. Booking a slot ahead is what lets you skip the morning queue, so reserve a southeast-Houston appointment when you can.
